Professional Summary
Stephen earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University
of Notre Dame in 1986. After graduation, he played
professional hockey in Europe and then worked as a
stockbroker in Boulder, Colorado. In 1992, Stephen obtained
his law degree from the University of Denver College of Law,
where he was a member of the Student Law Office. During law
school, Stephen was a clerk for the Honorable Martin P.
Miller, former Arapahoe County District Court Judge and
Arapahoe County District Attorney.
Early in his career, Stephen's practice was divided evenly
between criminal defense and civil litigation. His criminal
practice gave him extensive, first-chair, jury trial
experience which translated well to his civil practice.
Since 2000, Stephen's practice has focused primarily on
commercial litigation, although he remains an active member
of the criminal defense bar.

Currently
Steve’s practice focuses primarily on commercial litigation
in the areas of secured lending, foreclosure, bankruptcy
(creditor representation), construction, mechanic’s liens,
real estate and landlord/tenant matters. Steve is a
competitor, and his philosophy is that a client’s rights
should always be aggressively pursued. He is experienced
enough to know, however, that a client is not well served
when the cost of victory exceeds the benefit, or when an
adverse consequence might have been avoided by a more
objective, reasoned and pragmatic approach to a problem. In
the end, Steve’s goal is for every client to receive
zealous, professional representation and a just result.
